Visitor Medical Insurance FAQ's --  Pre-existing Conditions

Q: What are Pre-existing condition(s)?
A:
Any Injury, Illness, sickness, disease, or other physical or medical disorder, condition or ailment that, with reasonable medical certainty, existed at
the time of Application or at any time during the three years prior to the Effective Date of the Initial Period of Coverage, whether or not previously
manifested or symptomatic, diagnosed, treated, or disclosed, including any subsequent, chronic or recurring complications. If you had any physical
or medical condition such as pregnancy, diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol ….Etc would be considered as pre-existing
condition because these conditions do not occur overnight.

Q: Is there any plan which covers pre-existing condition(s)?
A:
If you are Non-US citizen (not an US citizen), there is no such plan which provide any coverage to pre-existing conditions. If you are US citizen,
some plans provide limited coverage for sudden and acute-accurance of pre-existing conditions.

Q: Can I have pre-existing conditions covered, by paying extra premium?
A:
No. There is no such procedure.

Q: Who determine pre-existing condition(s)?
A:
Doctor/hospital report determines pre-existing condition(s).

When any person goes to doctor/hospital for medical treatment, they usually ask several questions related to the condition as well as they may also
do required test before they give you right treatment. Then, the claim department of Insurance company reviews the treatment report submitted by
doctor/hospital before processing the claim.

Q: Why Insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions?
A:
Most of the visitor Insurance plans are short term plans. So, when a person buying the visitor Insurance plan that means Insurance company is
buying the risk of any medical condition(s) which could occur due to unforeseen circumstances such as accident, sudden illness…Etc. If Insurance
would cover pre-existing condition, they have to cover more risk and have to pay more than they make from premium. It won’t let them run profitable
business.

Q: Why should I buy visitor medical Insurance, if does not cover pre-existing condition(s)?
A:
People who live in developed countries such as USA, England, Australia, France, and Italy…Etc are aware of high cost of medical treatment(s).
Visitor medical Insurance plans would insure you from unforeseen circumstances during the coverage period. It is not meant to cover condition
which has already existed before the plan starts.

For example: When you buy car Insurance, if there is already damage to the car then Insurance company does not cover for pre-existing damages.
But, if your car gets any new damage after buying the Insurance then Insurance company covers new damages. The same concept applies for
visitor Insurance.

Q: Is pregnancy is covered by visitor Insurance plan?
A:
No, visitor Insurance plans do not cover pregnancy. For more details about exclusion, please read plan brochure.

Q: My mom has diabetes and high blood pressure? May you suggest me any visitor Insurance plan which would cover these medical
condition.
A:
Unfortunately, there is no plan which covers pre-existing conditions.

Q: I know my parents have pre-existing condition and Insurance company won’t cover it. What precautions should I take in this
situation?
A:
Ask them to have a medical check up before traveling to USA and take the necessary medicine prescribed by the doctor. They can buy the
sufficient amount of medicine from home country. If you run out of medication during the trip your relatives can help you to get the medication by
mail or courier from the home country as long as they are not restricted in the country by law.

This medical check up is not required by the Insurance company but you may have it as a precaution as well as to get necessary medication.

Q: My father has a heart attack about 5 years ago, he is still taking medication. If he gets another heart attack while in USA during the
coverage period, would the Insurance company consider it as a pre-existing condition because he already has a heart attack?
A:
This is depends on the doctor/hospital report. If they say, this heart attack condition was linked to first heart attack because he was still under
medication which was a pre-existing condition then Insurance company won’t cover the claim.

But if doctor/hospital report says that it was not linked to pre-existing condition then Insurance company would cover the claim.
